Good day to read the NY papers

New York Post editorial: ...So now it's up to George Steinbrenner. Say what you will about the man, he has only ever put one thing above winning: class.

Maybe the funniest line of the year. Classy Steinbrenner who screwed Dave Winfield's charity and was suspended from baseball. Making players shave doesn't make you classy, George.

Kevin Kernan of the Post: Brian Cashman & Co. sold their baseball souls for you and you were not able to deliver a championship. Since you've arrived, the Yankees have gone backward. Go back to Oakland or somewhere you can turn the clubhouse into a party house, somewhere closer to your different-colored pills, your BALCO buddies and Barry Bonds, your idol.

The Yankees baseball souls were sold a long time ago. When did Steinbrenner buy the team?

Mike Vacarro of the Post: ....Yankees fans never did embrace Giambi....

No, they didn't embrace him in 2003 after he hit two homeruns to beat the Sox in Game 7.

and: Shed no tears for Steinbrenner. The Yanks heard the same whispers everyone else did. They all had eyes, and common sense. They knew what they were buying three years ago.

Wow, I found a paragraph in the Post that actually sounds reasonable!

Headline from the Daily News: A big dirty liar! Jason did 'roids

John Heyman of Newsday: Sure, if he were still hitting 40 homers and .300, the Yankees would defend him harder than they fought for Steve Howe. But the reality is Giambi has made himself incapable of performing because of a lifestyle that would make Caligula blush

He makes a good point. Giambi's terrible season contributed greatly to this outrage. It would be a little different if it was Sheffield (who already admitted to "accidently" taking steroids), or God forbid, Derek Jeter. Strangely, Heyman seems more concerned about Giambi partying a lot rather than his steroid use.

To be fair, Sox fans can sometimes get carried away. Two headlines from BostonDirtDogs: "Jeter's Cheaters: Sox robbed of 2003 World Series title, as New York Yankees cheated to win ALCS." and "Will his 2 home runs in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS be voided now Bud?"
