Pats vs. Browns

  • Why is Bob Dylan breaking his long silence to talk to 60 Minutes?
  • How bad are the Browns? There was a fight for a fumble, so the players away from the pile started pointing to say they had possession. A Brown player was pointing the wrong way, telling the refs to give the ball to the Pats. To give him credit, he was right.
  • Up 42-7 with about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd, backup Rohan Davey replaces Tom Brady. I wonder if the Colts would do the same thing. (Well, I just found out what the Eagles would do. McNabb's throwing on first down in the 4th quarter of 44-3 game. Not only is this stupid, it's absolutely classless. I'd love to see McNabb or Owens get hurt right now. Andy Reid's a stupid bully.)
  • Back to 4th quarter thoughts of the Pats Browns game. I had two thoughts: "Please, no one get hurt," and "Please Davey, make some good plays so the Pats can trade you for a good draft pick."
  • I thought Luke McCown looked pretty good. He had good pocket presence and didn't make too many mistakes.
  • First half on third down, Troy Brown makes an open field tackle to force the Browns to punt. Not a great play, but I've seen several backs miss the tackle on similar plays. Brown actually looks like he's played in the defensive backfield for a long time.
  • Later, he gets a tough interception and stays on the field for the next play.
  • Best line from JV announcer Randy Cross: "In this situation, ball maintanence is very important." I guess he's a health teacher during the week.
  • Not only do we have to put up with bad announcers in non-marquee games, we also have to put up with bad technical equipment. Nothing's worse than watching a game when "they lose the picture."
  • ESPN did a piece on all of the great tight ends in football. They mention several great tight ends, but Daniel Graham was not mentioned. Graham started the season with several touchdowns, but then the Pats offensive line got hit with injuries. According to Kevin Mannix of the Boston Herald, now Graham is staying on the line for about 90% of the plays. Watch highlights of Corey Dillon's runs and almost every time you'll see Graham with a great block. Blocking is an important part of being a good tight end. In other words, ESPN should have mentioned Graham.
  • Speaking of good blocking, wide receiver David Givens seems to be seen giving a great block on every long run by the Pats.
  • Cleveland fans: instead of Gerard Warren the Browns could have picked Richard Seymour. Instead of William Green the Browns could have picked Clinton Portis.
  • Defensive end Ty Warren caught Running Back William Green from behind. This tells you something about Warren's speed, or Green's lack of speed, or both.
  • The Pats defensive is playing well without their three top corners. Credit goes to the entire team, but not enough can be said about the linebackers.
  • The Pats gave up a 2nd round pick for Corey Dillon. The Dolphins gave up a second round pick for AJ Feely.
