Hot Stove, Giants get another bad contract

It's always interesting to see middle market teams decide to spend money, and then spend it unwisely. This year's example is the Giants. First, they sign over-the-hill Omar Vizquel to a three year deal. Now, they sign Armando Benitez to a three year contract worth $21 million. Sure, he was great last year when he was pitching for a contract. Before, however, he was terrible in the playoffs for the Orioles and the Mets, and he had subpar seasons the two years he pitched before last year's contract season. Now the Giants say they're after 39-year-old Steve Finley. They'll probably give him three years too, and they'll still have no one in the lineup to protect Bonds.
