Since it is Final Four weekend, we should also pay tribute to 2 coaches who are figureheads to college basketball, especially in the northeast. I think Calhoun should have been inducted last year, but I am glad that he and Boeheim are going in the same year together.
Both coaches won their 700th game this past season and the Big East would not be the same without either of them on the sideline.
Boeheim is one the smartest men in the world. He never left college. I've never visited the Syracuse campus and I know they get a lot of snow so he might have been better off coaching in Florida or California, but the man has never had the burden of going out in the real world.
Calhoun has brought UCONN from nothing to the best team historically in the conference. He had one star in Cliff (then changed to Clifford) Robinson in the 1980s. Once Cliff graduated, he won the NIT the following year and then was a Laetner leaner away from the Final Four in 1990. Calhoun also deserves credit for what he did at Northeastern where he coached Reggie Lewis.
The schools have already named their respective courts after these 2 coaches, and now it is great to see them get the national accolade of entering the Hall together.
